Maddy Arden

Professor of Health Psychology

I am a Professor of Health Psychology and the Research Lead for the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Politics and the Applied Health Research Group at Sheffield Hallam University. My main research focus in health behaviour change, and I am interested in how people respond to health advice and use it to make decisions.

I have been involved with the project since the start in September 2013, following an event called IMAGINE that focused on the development of multidisciplinary teams across the University. As part of this project we tested our prototype Virtual Reality system with prosthetic users - and was delighted that it was so well received and that health professionals could see so many potential applications within healthcare. The public engagement aspects of this work are both enjoyable and rewarding and it's very exciting to have been funded by the Wellcome Trust to develop workshops and exhibitions to develop understanding around the technology, science, ethics and psychology of prosthetic use and choice.
